Baby Shower Gifts – Looking for a Special Gift for a Baby Shower?

Baby Shower Gifts – Shopping

One way to make sure that the mommy-to-be receives the baby shower gifts that she needs for that new bundle of joy is to register at your local store. There are many stores that provide a gift registry such as Target, Toys R Us, or Babies R Us.

To find a great variety of baby and mommy gifts at a discount, go here.

Once registered, you are given a handheld scanner that you use to scan the bar code of the item you want. You simply walk around the store and if you see items that you would like to recieve as baby shower gifts, you scan them with the device. Make sure you include plenty of items in different price ranges to choose from. This will give your guests a good list to choose from.

On your invitation, make sure you include that you are registered and give the name of the store. The guest can go to the store and print out the list of items you have selected and pick for the list. Quick, easy, and you get things you really need and want as baby shower gifts.

Baby Shower Gifts

If you are lucky, the mommy-to-be has registered her wishes for baby shower gifts with a local store, so knowing what things she wants and needs for baby shower gifts is easy. If she hasn’t registered, you should ask the guest of honor’s mother, husband, or someone else close to her what she needs or wants.

If it is the first baby for the new mommy, you might want to give practical baby shower gifts like blankets, diapers, or burp cloths. A gift basket filled with powder, lotion and other items for baby is also a good option.

If this is a second or third baby, you can afford to be a little more creative as the new mommy probably already has many items left from her first baby.

If the invitation indicated the theme of the shower, it might be fun to get something that ties in with it. For example if the theme is rubber ducky, you might pick a bathtub or a baby towel and washcloth with ducks on them. You could wrap your present in duck gift wrap or tie an inexpensive rubber ducky on the bow.

There’s no need to fret if you are short on cash. Baby shower gifts can range anywhere from $5 to over $100. If you are not especially close to the mommy-to-be, maybe you are a co-worker in a different department, it’s perfectly acceptable to spend towards the lower end of the scale. If you are very close, such as the mother or sister of the guest of honor, you may opt to spend more.

You may decide to pool your gift money with other guests and give a bigger ticket item, such as a baby swing or car seat. Just make sure you check with the mommy-to-be first to see if it’s something she needs or wants.

Hostess Gift

The hostess gift is given from the guest of honor to the host of the shower to thank her for the time and effort she spent giving the shower. The price of the hostess gift depends upon your own finances and the size of the party. If the party was very large or catered it wouldn’t be out of range to spend up to $200. For a small shower in the host’s home, $20 to $50 is an acceptable range.

When picking a hostess gift, try to think of things that interest the host. Does she have a favorite hobby such as jewelry making? Give her some beautiful crystal beads in her favorite color. Does she have a favorite team she is loyal to? Give her an official team sweatshirt.

If you are the crafty type, you might consider making the hostess something yourself. If you are into jewelry making, you might make a beautiful necklace with matching earring out of those crystal beads. Do your African violets win awards at the fair? Give her one of your prized pots.

And of course a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant, day spa or department store is always appreciated.

The main thing is that your hostess knows that you appreciate all the effort, time, and money invested in the baby shower.

I agree with the scrap book idea and portrait studio. I take my children to get their photos done CONSTANTLY!!!But also because you say they practically have nothing for this child I would maybe get them one thing unique and then go with the basics that meet the child’s needs more.Usually if I am going to a baby shower of a friend I buy them diapers usually a size two because everyone thinks of newborn but not what you will need in a month or two. One outfit that is a 3-6 months and one outfit that is 6-9 months. I also usually get one summer and one winter outfit this time of year the larger one being the winter outfit. Hitting sales I can get all that for $ 20 or a little more. I will also throw in a small toy or rattle etc.For family I of course will usually spend more and will get the two outfits and diapers. But also will get a pack of receiving blankets. Or a kit with all the little shampoos, lotions, oils etc. A baby massage kit. Blankets. Crib sheets. Etc All those things are must haves.Plus bottles whether she is nursing or not. Pacifiers. There is so much!Good luck with your shopping

  2. Really good info can be found on web blog.

i just came across your question when searching for handmade baby shower gifts ideas My friends and sis’s in law all say there fav gifts for there baby showers was soft baby blanket, soft hats in an arrange of sizes( you dont have to get a gift that will fit the baby right now, most mums are wel stocked for the present time but arent stocked up for the following months when the baby wil grow quickly). I gave a friend of mine a lovely baby blanket about 4 years ago when she had her first and it was big then and its still big on her little girls bed now, still in use. One of my sis’s in laws loved nappies lol, a friend of hers got amoung other things a changing bag and a bout a dozen packs of nappies, my sis in law found them so useful, ok they dont lsat long but she remembers that gift more than most as they came in handy specially in the nite and u run out lol.Overall i would say a few small gifts are best, something useful, something for the future months to come and something personal. Thats what i also stick to and i have 4 sis’s in law and have attended god knows how many baby showers. Have fun shopping, have fun at the shower, and i hope i helped some how even though i blabbed on a bit sorry x

Depending on how much you want to spend here are a couple of my ideas after having had a baby recently and recieving many unique and helpful gifts at her shower. On the low end, I loved the gifts that were totally practical. For example, a basket filled with bath time essentials (shampoo, lotion, wash cloths, towel, rubber ducky, diaper rash cream, brush set, nail clippers etc.) You could probably fill a basket nicely for $ 20-30 or for a little bit more, buy the infant bath tub to put it all in. Or another idea would be a basket of feeding essentials (bibs, burp cloths, spoons, dishes, sippy cups, bottles, baby cereal etc.) On the high end, one very useful item we recieved was a bouncy seat ($ 50-$ 80). Play mats and other baby entertainers were also nice to recieve as gifts, as they weren’t always an essential item that we could afford to buy ourselves. Hope this gives you a couple of ideas.

I think you’re right. The things that are essential to taking care of a new baby are the most appreciated. Thanks for your input.

I’m not sure where you live, but I live in Wisconsin wher it gets COLD and the one life-saving gift I received was a car seat cover. It slips right over the car seat/carrier and it has wool liinng on the inside so the baby stays warm without having to take the time to bundle them up in a heavy snowsuit. Their face is the only thing that shows. You can get them Walmart, K-Mart, Babies R’Us or Target. Another great (unique) gift I received was a baby time-capsule. It’s a big cannister that you can fill with different things. (I put in the newspaper from the day my son was born, his first picture, outfit he wore home, baby-bracelet, etc. You are supposed to bury it or save it to give to them when they are older. (I’m waiting to give my son’s to him for his 16th birthday.) Good luck!
